Probably the Swiss didn't like the chocolate because it was still grainy in the 1600s (before conching was invented). You know what perfectionists they are.

Wow! I can't imagine my life without chocolate...My cousin actually lives in Switzerland and sends lots of much needed fixes for our cravings. :-) I like Belgian brands too: I like them a bit more actually, because I feel they are smoother and creamier.Thanks for the info and the link to the cake recipe! I visited the Alprose chocolate factory and the company's Museum in Switzerland - gorgeous - free samples! Nearby there was a real Swiss cow - complete with bell!
